ALPENA, MICHIGAN – Through the hard work and dedication of its employees and the generosity of its membership, Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union raised $3,853.43 in monetary donations for the Community Foundation of Northeast Michigan (CFNEM) Youth Advisory Council (YAC). The CFNEM YAC is comprised of youth ages 12-21 who are responsible for recommending grants to programs and projects that benefit youth in communities throughout Northeast Michigan. The recommendations are then presented to the Board of Trustees for final approval.

Grant-making is YAC’s number one activity, they also participate in community service projects and learn essential leadership skills. Through this program, youth learn the important role philanthropy plays in their communities; and it empowers them to make a real difference for other youth. Along with member donations, team members sold candy bars, held various raffles, and donated $2.00 per employee to dress down on Fridays to help raise funds for the Community Foundation of Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council.

AAACU serves members primarily in Alpena, Alcona, Montmorency, and Iosco counties with 9 locations: a main office located in Alpena, with branch offices in Ossineke, Lincoln, a Tiger Branch in Alcona Community Schools, Atlanta, Oscoda, the Owl’s Nest in Oscoda Area Schools, Tawas, and an additional branch in Alpena. As of September 30, 2019, AAACU provides service to 29,273 members with total assets equal to $360,467,353.
