Just yesterday, the National Credit Union Administration announced it will host a public budget hearing for its 2026-2027 staff draft budget. The hearing will be held in person, at the NCUA’s headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, on November 6th at 1 pm. Anyone interested in attending and/or presenting comments on the budget at the hearing must first email their request and state whether they intend to present or not. They must also submit presentations beforehand. More information can be found in the NCUA’s press release on the matter.
The staff draft budget consists of three separate budgets, including the operating budget, the capital budget, and the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) administrative budget. Overall, the entire budget for the upcoming year, according to America’s Credit Unions, is 20.6% smaller than the current year’s budget, due to the NCUA’s continued staff reduction efforts. The budget breakdown is as follows:
- $292.4 million for the proposed operating budget;
- $18.1 million proposed capital budget, including $10 million for implementation of the NCUA’s reorganization plan for 2026; and
- $3.3 million for the proposed National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund administrative budget.
For those who wish to express their thoughts on the budget but are unable to attend in person, the NCUA is currently accepting written comments on the issue through November 7th. Additionally, the public budget hearing will be live-streamed on NCUA’s webpage on November 6, 2025.
If you wish to review the budget in its entirety, it can be found on the Budget and Supplementary Materials page on NCUA’s website.
