Two important items are occurring during today’s NCUA meeting.
The Senate Banking Committee is poised to vote on the nomination of Joh Crews for NCUA board member. Crews has a deep background in banking, securities, and economics including serving as Treasury deputy assistant secretary, as well as the staff director for the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Securities and Insurance, special advisor for economic policy to the president, policy director for the Senate Banking Committee, and policy advisor to the House Majority Leader.
The support letter for John Crews nomination states: “we have seen Mr. Crews continue as a thought leader on critical regulatory reform for credit unions and community financial institutions across the country” it adds. “The Committee has always held a strong commitment to robust leadership at our financial regulators, and the timely confirmation of Mr. Crews will continue that trend.”
Additionally, the Senate Banking Committee will hear from Brian Johnson, CFPB Director nominee. Johnson was also the CFPB director under the previous Trump administration and now holds an executive title with Capital One.
