Happy Election Day, Readers! While much of the spotlight for today’s events remains fixed on the outcome of the Presidential election, credit union advocacy groups, trade groups, and professionals are keeping their eyes on lower-level elections to see which credit union-backed candidates make the cut.

With credit unions looking at restrictions on overdraft fees, added interchange fees, the addition of the Credit Card Competition Act, and more in the coming months with a new Congress in place, advocacy groups are stressing the importance of this election for the industry.

Over the last several months, America’s Credit Unions has thrown its support (both verbally and monetarily) behind nearly 400 candidates across the country from both sides of the table, hoping to secure a place for credit union advocates in Congress who will champion and fight for credit union priorities—including tax exemption status and more recent issues such as overdraft and interchange policy.

“Credit unions are supporting several candidates in tough elections this Nov. 5,” said America’s Credit Unions “because they have demonstrated a willingness to create policy to help credit unions serve more members and provide needed financial services.”

To see which candidates the group is backing and to keep informed on the outcomes for these supported candidates, America’s Credit Unions has set up a Credit Union Elections Hub on their website, where credit unions can track the election results as they roll in. ACU will also be hosting a webinar on November 7th at 2 PM EST to analyze the election outcomes and discuss the potential impact the results will have on credit union advocacy in the coming years.

You can learn more about the webinar and register for it here.

If you haven’t voted yet, remember that today is your last day to do so. Your vote matters, so don’t let it go to waste! You can find your polling and candidate information on the Credit Unions Vote website or on Vote.org.
